Annotation of standard text ASTM A909/A909M-06(2026) :

This specification covers wrought, microalloyed carbon steel forgings for general industrial use. Materials shall be produced by melting processes and killing. It shall also be hot forged by hot mechanical work. Conformance of the forgings to chemical composition requirements shall be examined by heat and product analyses. Metallurgical requirements such as grain size and microstructure, and mechanical property requirements such as yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, hardness, and ductility, shall also be evaluated. Steel forgings that fail to meet specified mechanical property values shall be retreated by either tempering or heat treatment, and then retested.
