Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Prüfverfahren zur Bestimmung der Explosionspunkte in Luft von brennbaren Flüssigkeiten fest. Diese Norm gilt für brennbare Flüssigkeiten bei Umgebungsdruck und für Temperaturen von ż50 °C bis 300 °C. Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für Sprengstoffe oder Produkte, die unter den Prüfbedingungen thermisch instabil sind (z. B. polymerisierende/oxidierende Flüssigkeiten).
