1st edition, March 2017 - Original This leaflet contains the general conditions to be met by brake cylinders/units for use with compressed air brakes. It describes the geometry and functional requirements for general/specific applications. Definitions, test methods and pass/fail criteria to be performed appear in the leaflet. This leaflet also describes the procedure for issuing a UIC seal of approval / label for brake cylinders/units, and related tests and acceptance criteria in conformity with the prescription of UIC Leaflet 541-00. This UIC procedure is intended to usefully apply the expertise of UIC experts in assessing braking components for the award of a UIC seal of approval / label. In order to avoid duplication of work, this certificate may then be used by accredited or notified bodies to underpin their own work. UIC issued seals of approval/ labels are not attached to a specific use of a brake cylinder/unit on a particular vehicle.
