Diskussionen um das Thema Holzschutz und entsprechender Normung finden in der Regel im Spannungsfeld zwischen Bauwerkserhaltung und notwendigem Gesundheitsschutz statt. Die Neuauflage des DIN-Taschenbuchs 132 stellt die aktuelle Fassung der Holzschutz-Norm im Originaltext bereit, ergänzt durch Begriffs- und Prüfnormen. Insgesamt sind 22 DIN- und DIN-EN-Normen (Originaltexte, verkleinert auf das Format A5) abgedruckt. Überarbeitet wurden u. a. die Normenreihen DIN EN 46, DIN EN 47 und DIN EN 49 zu Insektenprüfungen. Außerdem wurden DIN EN 335 über Gebrauchsklassen und DIN EN 350 zur natürlichen Dauerhaftigkeit aktualisiert. Diese beiden Normen sind auch für die nationale Normenreihe DIN 68800 "Holzschutz" von Bedeutung.
