Prior to cleaning and coating, the steel wires shall be free of surface contaminants such as oil, grease, or paint. Wire surfaces shall be cleaned by abrasive cleaning or chemical cleaning to ensure proper adherence of the epoxy. Coatings shall then be applied as soon as possible after cleaning, before possible oxidation, and shall be properly cured. Wrap, bend and tensile tests shall be performed in order to evaluate coating properties, including thickness, continuity, adherence, size tolerance, and tensile strength.
