This specification covers the standard for cold rolled ultra high strength carbon steel sheet in coils or cut lengths. The sheet shall be produced from aluminum killed steel and shall undergo continuous annealing to austenitic temperatures and then be water quenched. Cast or heat analysis shall conform to the prescribed chemical composition requirements in carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and aluminum. Tension test shall be done on the point immediately adjacent to the material to be tested and properties shall conform to the specified tensile strength. The sheet shall have a matte surface finish texture and shall have cut edges. Unless otherwise specified, the sheet shall undergo oiling.

1. Scope | ||
1.1 This specification covers a cold rolled ultra high strength carbon steel sheet in coils or cut lengths. The product is available in five strength levels. The steel's strength is obtained by water quenching from an austenitic temperature resulting in a martensitic microstructure. This product is intended for miscellaneous applications where ultra high strength, weight saving, and good weldability are important. 1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. 1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee. |
