| Significance and Use | ||||||
Sonic velocity measurements are useful for comparing materials. A value for Young’modulus can be obtained for many applications, which will generally be within 10 % of the value obtained by other methods, such as in Test Method C 747. |

| 1. Scope | ||||||
1.1 This test method covers a procedure for measuring the sonic velocity in manufactured carbon and graphite materials having a grain size less than 0.80 mm (1/32 in.). The sonic velocity can be used to obtain an approximate value for Young's modulus. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. |
