This specification covers rubber-coated cloth hospital sheeting intended for use in the protection of mattresses on hospital beds. The base cloth should be hospital sheeting woven from cotton yarn, synthetic yarn, or a blend of both. The coating should be made from natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or a mixture of both that is suitably formulated and colored with a white pigment. The base cloth should be uniformly coated on both sides with equal amounts of coating compounds and may be dusted with talc that does not support mildew growth. The coated cloth should be vulcanized to comply with the required values of coating thickness, breaking strength, rubber-cloth adhesion, waterproofness, resistance to phenol and isopropyl alcohol, and steam sterilization. Under no circumstance should the coated cloth have cuts, tears, holes, uncoated areas, thinly coated areas, separation of cloth from coating, cracked coating, lumps or blisters, color, curled or rolled edges, dirt, spots, stains, and offensive odors.
