1. Scope | ||||||||||
1.1 This guide relates to the use of in-situ burning of spilled oil. The focus of the guide is in-situ burning of oil on water, but the ignition techniques and devices described in the guide are generally applicable to in-situ burning of oil spilled on land as well. 1.2 The purpose of this guide is to provide information that will enable oil-spill responders to select the appropriate techniques and devices to successfully ignite oil spilled on water. 1.3 This guide is one of four related to in-situ burning of oil spills. Guide F1788 addresses environmental and operational considerations. Guide F2152 addresses fire-resistant booms, and Guide F2230 addresses burning in ice conditions. 1.4 This standard does not
purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated
with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard
to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to
determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
