Norma se vztahuje na mikrofilmy typu MR 35 podle ČSN 01 3844 pro technickou dokumentaci (tj. např. i pro kusovníky, technické popisy, návody se schématy, atd.) podle ČSN 01 3105 a norem navazujících. Norma popisuje technické požadavky a kontrolní metody, stavbu mikrofilmu a manipulaci s mikrofilmy. Přílohy 1 až 4 uvádějí schéma mikrofilmů, polohu mikrozáznamů předloh snímkovaných sdruženě, uspořádání mikrozáznamů ve změnovém mikrofilmu a tabulku doporučených faktorů zvětšení a formátů zvětšenin. Norma se nevztahuje na mikrofilmy COM, ani na kopie nebo duplikáty z nich.
