Norma platí pro součásti strojů a přístrojů, spojované šrouby, závitovými čepy, závrtnými šrouby, a jinými spojovacími součástmi, u nichž jsou osy děr pro spojovací součásti rovnoběžné. Norma stanoví tolerance polohy os průchozích hladkých a závitových děr. Neplatí pro součásti, na něž nejsou kladeny požadavky vzájemné zaměnitelnosti a jejichž smontovatelnost je zajištěna společným obráběním děr ve dvojici spojovaných součástí. Informační příloha 1 uvádí volbu tolerancí polohy os děr pro spojovací součásti a příloha 2 uvádí základní vztahy pro přepočet tolerancí jmenovité polohy na mezní úchylky souřadnic os děr
