Norma stanoví hlavní zásady ochrany proti korozi vnějšího povrchu ocelových neliniových zařízení. Dále stanoví některé zásady ochrany ocelové výztuže železového betonu a předpjatého betonu z hlediska ochrany ocelové výztuže proti korozi bludnými proudy. Norma stanoví zásady, jimiž je třeba se řídit při projektování a stavbě zařízení, při rekonstrukci a kontrole stavu existujících zařízení, při dodatečném zřizování nebo úpravách ochrany proti korozi těchto existujících zařízení a při řešení společné protikorozní ochrany. Norma obsahuje všeobecné pokyny, pokyny pro průzkum agresivity prostředí, dále pak návrhy na způsoby uložení objektu, pasivní ochranu a katodickou ochranu. ČSN 03 8372 byla schválena 2.2.1977 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.4.1978
