Norma stanoví třídění a číselné označování průmyslových palivových pecí pro ohřev a tepelné zpracování kovů. Základem třídění je kritérium konstrukčního provedení pecního prostoru. Norma dále uvádí třídění pecí podle technologických a konstrukčních hledisek a shrnuje zásadní konstrukční znaky hlavních typů pecí. Třídící norma, která v kapitole 6 "Hlavní konstrukční znaky hlavních typů průmyslových palivových pecí pro ohřev a tepelné zpracování kovů" charakterizuje pece komorové, průběžné, poklopové, kelímkové a vanové.
