Tato norma platí jednak pro umělé brousicí materiály, jednak pro pojiva a uvádí jejich základní názvy. Neplatí pro brousicí materiály přírodní. Poměrně stručná všeobecná norma obsahuje přehled brousicích materiálů a jejich označení. Protože je uvedena přesná i chemická charakteristika, lze stanovit i rizikovost, z hlediska fibroplastického a jiného účinku. Mezi uvedenými materiály není křemen. Stejným způsobem je uveden i přehled pojiv brousicích nástrojů, z nichž silikátové a magnesitové by mohly mít eventuálně fibroplastický účinek. Norma umožňuje, podle značení, odhadovat hygienické riziko. ČSN 22 4010 byla schválena 14.7.1983 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.10.1984. Nahradila ČSN 22 4010 z 30.3.1955
