Norma platí pro konstrukci a výrobu ohradových, skříňových a sloupkových palet a stanoví jejich základní parametry. Neplatí pro palety podle ČSN 26 9122 a ČSN 26 9123 určené k manipulaci, přepravě a skladování hutních materiálů a pro "Evropskou čtyřcestnou ohradovou paletu "Y" z oceli, 800 x 1200 mm" podle vyhlášky Mezinárodní železniční unie UIC 435-3. Jsou normalizovány především technické požadavky (rozměry, štítky apod. v tom i požadavky na stohování). ČSN 26 9120 byla schválena 9.1.1991 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.5.1992. Nahradila ČSN 26 9120 z 18.8.1977 a ČSN 26 9124 z 9.4.1985
