Norma stanovuje barevné označování litých a tvářených hutních předvýrobků z hliníku, mědi a jejich slitin. Neplatí pro barevné označování odlitků, výkovků a výrobků práškové metalurgie. Jsou normalizovány barvy, umístění barevného označení a je určeno, že se doplňkovými barvami také stanovují stavy výrobku. Není uvedeno, pro který kov platí která barva. ČSN 42 1305 byla schválena 28.7.1989 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.5.1990. Nahradila ČSN 42 1306 z r.1954 a ČSN 42 1406 z r.1955
