Norma platí pro provádění plavicích zkoušek černých i hnědých uhlí pro stanovení upravitelnosti uhlí v celém rozsahu rozměrů zrn. Plavicí zkouškou se provádí rozbor surového uhlí nebo produktů rozdružování, při němž se zjišťují hmotnostní výnosy frakcí různé měrné hmotnosti. Plaví se v anorganických nebo organických kapalinách. V získaných frakcích se stanoví obsah popela a u hnědého uhlí obsah vody. Výsledky se sestaví do tabulky a zhotoví se diagram upravitelnosti
