V této normě jsou zapracovány údaje z ISO 3131:1975. Údaje souhlasné s ISO 3131:1975 jsou označené postranní čárou na levém okraji textu. Norma stanoví metodu zjišťování hustoty dřeva (poměr hmotnosti dřeva k jeho objemu) při fyzikálních a mechanických zkouškách, a to pro případ určité vlhkosti dřeva v době zkoušky, pro případ úplně suchého dřeva, jakož i pro případ konvenční hustoty (poměr hmotnosti zkušebního tělesa v úplně suchém stavu k jeho objemu při dané vlhkosti nebo při vlhkosti stejné nebo vyšší než je mez nasycení buněčných stěn dřeva. ČSN 49 0108 byla vydána v lednu 1993. Nahradila ČSN 44 0108 z 18.6.1979, což v normě není (omylem) uvedeno. Bylo to oznámeno v částce 14/1992 Věst. FÚNM pod pol. č. 39
