Část 5 normy určuje zkušební metodu pro stanovení tuku. Všeobecná ustanovení jsou uvedena v ČSN 58 0170 část 1. Stručná jednolistová část 5 této normy není dělena na kapitoly a jen podrobně popisuje normalizovanou metodu. Norma také (nepřímo) stanovuje některé kvalitativní znaky (jakosti) významné pro hygienu výživy, protože obsahuje požadavky na provádění metody jejich zjišťování (ověřování). ČSN 58 0170 část 5 byla schválena 24.12.1981 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.4.1983. Nahradila čl. 16 až 18 ČSN 58 0170 z 16.11.1963
