Norma platí pro oxid hlinitý používaný především pro výrobu hliníku a určuje pro stanovení oxidu sodného a oxidu draselného metody emisní plamenové fotometrie a atomové absorpční spektrometrie pro hmotnostní zlomek oxidu sodného od 0,05 do 1,0 % a oxidu draselného od 0,01 do 0,6 %. V této normě jsou zapracovány údaje z ISO 1617:1976. Při provádění rozboru musí být dodržena veškerá ustanovení podle ČSN 65 1041. ČSN 65 1049 byla schválena 25.4.1991 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.1.1992. Nahradila ČSN 65 1049 z 31.5.1978
