Norma stanoví české a slovenské názvy a české definice hlavních skupin skleněných výrobků. Při výběru hesel bylo přihlédnuto k tomu, aby byly zařazeny pouze hlavní skupiny výrobků, protože se předpokládá, že podrobnější členění bude obsaženo v chystaných ON, které mají na tuto normu navazovat. Je proto uvedeno pouze osm skupin výrobků a definováno asi 190 pojmů. Cizojazyčné názvy uvedeny nejsou. ČSN 70 0001 byla schválena 31.3.1976 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.12.1977. Nahradila spolu s ČSN 70 0000 z 31.3.1976 ČSN 70 0000 z 19.4.1967. "Změnou a)-5/1982" se s účinností od 1.1.1982 ruší hesla 1-12, 16-20, 23-26 a 244-247. (Nyní ČSN 70 0002.
