Norma platí pro výrobu, zkoušení a dodávání obalového skla nápojového určeného k přepravě a skladování nápojů a tekutých poživatin jako spotřebitelské balení. Láhve podle této normy nesmí být používány k nepotravinářským účelům. Není normalizován soubor požadavků na sklo, z něhož se takové láhve smějí vyrábět. ČSN 70 3100 byla schválena 23.2.1987 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.9.1987. Nahradila ČSN 70 4800 z r.1961. "Změnou a)-9/1990" se s účinností od 1.11.1990 provádí úpravy textu v pěti článcích
