Norma platí pro výrobu a dodávání mastku. Mastek je nerost, zásaditý vodnatý křemičitan hořečnatý. Vedle mastku jsou jeho nejčastějí součásti chlority a magnesit. Chlority jsou velké skupiny nerostů, vrstevnatých vodnatých křemičitanů. Spolu s mastkem se najčastěji vyskytuje klinochlór. Magnezit je nerost, přírodní uhličitan hořečnatý. Norma podrobně specifikuje znaky jakosti (většinou fyzikální, z chemických jen obsah Pb, Cu, Mn a Fe). ČSN 72 1761 byla schválena 3.5.1991 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.1.1992. Spolu s ČSN 72 1762 nahradila ČSN 72 1761 z 10.10.1962, ČSN 72 1762 z 8.1.1964, ČSN 72 1763 z 19.1.1965 a ČSN 72 1764 z 8.12.1966
