Tato norma uvádí postup pro zkoušení a hodnocení mechanických vlastností obyčejného hutného betonu, zpravidla pevnosti betonu v tlaku, při použití tvrdoměrných metod zkoušení. Jiné druhy betonu a jiné materiály lze zkoušet podle zásad této normy, k hodnocení výsledků zkoušení je nutno stanovit těsné korelační vztahy mezi ukazatelem nedestruktivního zkoušení a sledovanou vlastností. Podle zásad této normy lze stanovit pevnost betonu i jinými nedestruktivními či polodestruktivními metodami zkoušení povrchu betonu, např. metodou stanovení síly na vytržení podle ČSN EN 12504-3, metodou stanovení pevnosti v tahu povrchových vrstev podle ČSN 73 6242. Tato norma navazuje na ČSN 731370, ČSN EN 12504-2 a ČSN EN 13791
