Norma platí pro navrhování, montáž, demontáž, používání a údržbu ochranných a záchytných konstrukcí používaných při stavebních, montážních, nebo jiných pracích. Výjimky z normy povoluje Výzkumný ústav bezpečnosti práce (VÚBP), Praha. Celá norma má bezpečnostně technický charakter a normalizuje zejména společná ustanovení a ustanovení pro ochranné a záchytné konstrukce. Obsahuje požadavky na ochranná zábradlí (výška 1100 mm, zarážka u podlahy 150 mm), ochranné ohrazení a lešení a ochranný poklop. Dále pak požadavky na záchytné ohrazení, záchytné lešení, záchytnou síť a záchytnou mřížku. ČSN 73 8106 byla schválena 26.11.1981 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.3.1983. Nahradila ČSN 73 8106 z 21.3.1972. "Změnou a/-7/1986" se s účinností od 1.10.1986 provádí několik drobných změn
