Norma platí pro určování parametrů oscilačních vln vyvolaných větrem a jejich působení na vodohospodářské stavby a jiné stavební objekty a na břehy nádrží a zdrží. Jsou normalizovány zejména podklady pro stanovení parametrů větrových vln, účinek vln na stavby se svislým lícem, na svahy se sklonem plošším než 1:1 a na stavby se strmým lícem o sklonu větším než 1:1. ČSN 75 0255 byla schválena 23.2.1987 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.4.1988. Nahradila 73 6500 z 14.11.1980.
