Norma platí pro výrobu, dodávání a zkoušení boxů a dalších obuvnických vrchových usní chromitých. Obsah oxidu chromitého je normalizován na 2,2 - 8,1 %, dále je normalizováno, že obsah vyluhovatelného chromu, stanovený podle ČSN 79 3873, nesmí překročit 100,00 µg.g-1. ČSN 79 2246 byla schválena 9.4.1983 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.7.1984. Nahradila ČSN 79 2246 z 4.2.1959. "Změnou a)-12/1984" se s účinností od 1.1.1985 mění v tab. znaků jakosti pol. poř. č. 10 (obsah popela)
