Na základě dohody mezi EAN INTERNATIONAL a mezinárodní organizací ISDS International centre, lze využít pro kódování seriálových publikací i strukturu mezinárodního standardního čísla ISSN, kterému je předřazen vyhrazený prefix EAN/UCC. Označování seriálových publikací podle této normy je tedy určitou kombinací stávajícího mezinárodního číselného systému ISSN a mezinárodní číselné struktury EANoUCC
