Norma stanoví požadavky týkající se oplachovaných i neoplachovaných chromátových konverzních povlaků na hliníku a slitinách hliníku, a to povlaků určených pro ochranu proti korozi a jako podklad pro jiné povlaky. Norma stanoví, které informace musí poskytnout odběratel. Dále stanoví typy a označení povlaků a požadavky na povlak. V normativních přílohách norma uvádí způsob označení dodatečných úprav, metody ke stanovení hmotnosti povlaku a k identifikaci chromu, fosforu a zinku v povlaku a zkoušky složení vrstvy. V informativních přílohách norma uvádí informace o přípravě povrchu před chromátováním, o vytváření povlaku a o některých typech chromátových povlaků. Dále uvádí typické hodnoty odolnosti povlaku proti korozi.
