Norma určuje postup stanovení parathionu, parathion-methylu a některých dalších organofosforových sloučenin v pitné, povrchové a odpadní vodě plynovou chromatografií po extrakci. Tuto normu je možné použít i pro stanovení jiných organických sloučenin. Rozsah stanovitelných koncentrací závisí na sloučenině a na druhu vody. Obvykle se pohybuje do 1 mg/l s uváděnou mezí detekce 0,01 mg/l pro pitné vody při extrakčním poměru 1 000 : 1. Účinnost extrakce je zpravidla menší než 100 %. Strannost se mění podle extrakční účinnosti jednotlivých látek, druhu vody a použité metody.
