A2 Tato evropská norma specifikuje obecné konstrukční charakteristiky, požadavky a metody zkoušení přenosných žebříků. Norma neplatí pro schůdky nebo pro žebříky pro zvláštní profesionální použití, např. žebříky pro hasiče, střešní žebříky a pojízdné žebříky. Rovněž neplatí pro žebříky používané pro práci na elektrických soustavách nebo instalacích pod napětím nebo v jejich blízkosti. Pro tento účel platí EN 61478. Pro izolační žebříky používané v elektrických instalacích nízkého napětí nebo v jejich blízkosti platí EN 50528. Tato evropská norma je určena k použití spolu s EN 131-1. Pro žebříky s jedním nebo několika kloubovými spoji platí EN 131-4. Pro teleskopické žebříky platí EN 131-6. Pro pojízdné žebříky s plošinou platí EN 131-7
