Předmětem normy jsou požadavky na navrhování a výrobu vodících ložisek a konstrukcí, tedy ložisek, jejichž společným jmenovatelem je, že se jedná o ložiska, která nejsou zatěžována svislou silou. Tato norma je harmonizovaná. Vodící ložiska a konstrukce mohou být kombinována do jednoho celku. Minimální provozní teplota závisí na materiálových charakteristikách, které jsou dané pro určitou teplotu a omezení. Ložiska mohou být použita i v jiné než ve vodorovné rovině.
