Norma je zaměřena především na ochranu betonových a železobetonových konstrukcí. Uvádí zkušební metodu pro hodnocení vlivu střídavého působení zmrazování a rozmrazování pomocí roztoku chloridu sodného. Popsaná metoda je použitelná jak pro beton bez ochrany, tak i betonu opatřeného ochranou - hydrofobní impregnací. Podstatou metody je hodnocení úbytku hmotnosti a změn vzhledu - odlupování povrchových vrstev betonu po zmrazovacích a rozmrazovacích cyklech. Kriteriem hodnocení je počet cyklů, dosažených pro impregnovaný a neimpregnovaný vzorek betonu.
