Tato evropská norma poskytuje zpracovatelům výrobkových norem pro osobní ochranné prostředky (OOP) návod na specifikaci ergonomických požadavků. Úspěšné použití ergonomie při navrhování OOP zvyšuje jejich použitelnost a v souvislosti s tím zvyšuje bezpečnost, ochranu zdraví, výkonnost a efektivnost uživatele. Norma poskytuje návod na všeobecné ergonomické charakteristiky související s osobními ochrannými prostředky. Pro zpracovatele příslušných výrobkových norem stanovuje zásady vztahující se k antropometrickým charakteristikám souvisejícím s OOP, k biomechanickému a tepelnému vzájemnému působení mezi OOP a lidským tělem, k interakcím mezi OOP a lidskými smysly: zrakem; sluchem; čichem, chutí a hmatem. Tato evropská norma nezahrnuje požadavky související se specifickým nebezpečím, pro který je OOP navržen.
