Tato evropská norma platí pro výpočet energetické náročnosti mechanických větracích a klimatizačních systémů, včetně zvlhčování a odvlhčování. Zohledňuje část pro výrobu (vzduchotechnická jednotka) a část pro rozvod (potrubní systém). Zahrnuje zjednodušený výpočet pro adiabatické chladicí systémy. Tato norma nezahrnuje část systému pro sdílení (tj. výpočet požadovaných objemových průtoků a/nebo podmínky přiváděného vzduchu), která je zahrnuta v EN 16798-7.
