Tato norma určuje čísla ochrany a požadavky na činitel prostupu pro filtry určené k ochraně pracovníků provádějících práce, které zahrnují svařování, pájení na tvrdo, drážkování elektrickým obloukem a řezání plazmatem. Také zahrnuje požadavky pro svářečské filtry s dvojím ochranným stupeň . Ostatní požadavky na tyto filtry jsou uvedeny v EN 166. Požadavky pro obruby/nosné části, o kterých se předpokládá, že budou použity jsou uvedeny v EN 175. Návod k výběru a použití těchto filtrů je uveden v příloze A. Specifikace na filtry pro svařování s proměnným činitelem prostupu ve viditelné oblasti spektra jsou uvedeny v EN 379.
