This document specifies requirements and test methods for the determination of the strength, durability and stiffness of star bases for use for seating with three or more legs.
It is not applicable for star bases intended to be used in child seating products.
It is applicable without regard to materials, design/construction or manufacturing processes.
It is a component standard helping to regulate star-base properties between component manufacturer and manufacturer of final seating. This document is not relevant for the final consumer where standards for complete articles exist.
The requirements are based upon star bases fitted with glides and with castors whose wheels are up to 65 mm diameter and for use by persons weighing up to 150 kg
