Norma stanoví mezní hodnoty pro různé druhy vad povrchu na šroubech pro všeobecné použití. Podrobně popisuje výskyt vad, druhy a tvary vad, jejich příčiny, kontrolu a zkoušení. Norma platí pro šrouby: - se závitem o jmenovitém průměru d >= 5 mm; - výrobní třídy A a B; - pevnostní třídy do 10.9 včetně, pokud v předmětových normách není stanoveno jinak. Dodatek A uvádí pokyny pro rozsah namátkové kontroly povrchových vad. Mezní hodnoty pro povrchové vady na šroubech pro zvláštní použití (např. pro strojní utahování) jsou stanoveny v ISO 6157-3 (zavedena v ČSN EN 26157-3 (02 1016))
