Část 1 normy EN 50264 popisuje všeobecné požadavky vhodné pro kabely uvedené ve všech částech EN 50264. Začleňuje podrobné požadavky pro izolační a plášťové materiály a další komponenty zvolené v jednotlivých částech. V EN 50264-1 jsou předepsány takové požadavky, které se vztahují k bezpečnosti vůči požáru. Na základě dlouholetých zkušeností a bezporuchového provozu těchto kabelů jsou tyto kabely dimenzovány na výskyt nahodilých tepelných namáhání způsobujících stárnutí stejné jako při trvalém provozu při teplotě 90 C.
