Tato evropská norma specifikuje požadavky, zkušební metody a kritéria funkčnosti pro bodové hlásiče kouře, které pracují s rozptýleným světlem, vysílaným světlem nebo ionizací, určené pro použití v systémech detekce požáru a požární signalizace instalovaných v budovách a jejich okolí (viz EN 54-1:2011). Tato evropská norma stanoví posuzování ověřování stálosti vlastností (AVCP) bodových hlásičů kouře podle této EN. Pro jiné typy hlásičů kouře nebo hlásiče kouře pracující na jiných principech by se tato norma měla používat pouze jako návod.
