Tato část normy zahrnuje základní rozměrové vztahy mezi kostrami a souvisícími zásuvnými jednotkami v souladu s řadou norem IEC 60297. Účelem této normy je specifikovat rozměry, které zabezpečí rozměrovou vyměnitelnost mezi kostrami a souvisícími zásuvnými jednotkami. Rozměry vztahující se ke konektorům jsou omezeny jen na kontrolu rozměrů. Mechanické a klimatické zkoušky se odkazují na IEC 61587-1. Zkoušky elektromagnetického stínění se odkazují na IEC 61587-3.
