Tato norma je určena pro klasifikaci komerčně dostupných magnetických materiálů. V tomto dokumentu je klasifikace magnetických materiálů založena na obecně uznávané existenci dvou hlavních skupin výrobků: - magneticky měkké materiály (koercivita <= 1 000 A/m); - magneticky tvrdé materiály (koercivita > 1 000 A/m). V rámci těchto hlavních skupin klasifikace, pokud je to vhodné, se rozpoznávají následující charakteristiky: - hlavní legující prvek, hutní stav a fyzikální vlastnosti materiálu; - pokud je to možné a vyhovující, je identifikován vztah mezi těmito charakteristikami
