Norma definuje všeobecné požadavky na ohebné izolační trubičky, které jsou určeny především pro izolaci vodičů a konektorů, případně pro bandážování, označování a jako mechanická ochrana. Norma zahrnuje oproti předchozímu vydání navíc vysvětlení způsobu číslování listů, směrnici pro požadavky na schvalování kvalifikace a návod na zkoušky, které jsou závislé na velikosti a/nebo barvě. Norma nepředepisuje rozměry izolačních trubiček, ale odkazuje na jednotlivé specifikace.
