Norma specifikuje zařízení pro zkoušky žhavou smyčkou a obecný zkušební postup určený k napodobení vlivů tepelných namáhání, která mohou být vyvolána zdroji tepla (např. žhavými prvky nebo krátkodobě přetíženými rezistory). Účelem je posoudit požární nebezpečí pomocí simulačního postupu.
