Tato norma určuje postup výpočtu nejmenšího a největšího středního vnějšího průměru kabelů a vnějších rozměrů plochých šňůr s měděnými jádry kruhového průřezu pro jmenovitá napětí do 450/750 V včetně. Tato norma není určena pro kabely s minerální izolací. Postup nesmí být použit na výpočet průměru sestavy žil pro stanovení tloušťky pláště: v tomto případě musí být použit postup uvedený v příloze A IEC 502
