Tato norma poskytuje metodu pro určení acidity (měřením pH) a konduktivity vodného roztoku plynů vznikajících při hoření komponentů kabelů tak, aby limity mohli být schváleny pro specifikace kabelů. Vzhledem k tomu, že se zkouška neprovádí na zkušebním kusu kompletního kabelu, pro posouzení nebezpečí by měly být vzaty v úvahu skutečné objemy materiálu komponentů kabelů. Tato metoda poskytuje nepřímé posouzení korozivity. Nicméně, doporučené limity pH a konduktivity lze považovat pouze za orientační, protože vztah mezi korozí a těmito dvěma parametry nemusí nutně zahrnovat všechny materiály
