Tato norma platí pro varovná zařízení zajišťující monitory používané k monitorování kontaminace radioaktivními zdroji záření na povrchu osob buď s oblečením nebo bez oblečení. Norma se vztahuje pouze na ten typ zařízení, kde uživatel neprovádí jinou činnost než to, že je přítomen a/nebo dá své ruce a nohy na detektory. Neplatí pro přístroje, u nichž uživatel nebo někdo jiný pohybuje detektory po ploše, která má být monitorována nebo uživatel rychle projde monitorem. Také neplatí pro jakékoliv periferní zařízení, které může být spojeno s určitým typem zařízení, jako jsou malé monitory.
