Norma popisuje metody měření útlumu pasivních součástek vláknové optiky. Specifikuje požadavky na měřicí aparaturu a podmínky buzení vlákna. Dále jsou detailně popsány dvě měřicí metody, a to transmisní pomocí měřidla optického výkonu a metoda optické reflektometrie OTDR. Pro měření transmisní metodou jsou podrobně popsány měřicí postupy, a to metodou dvou délek, metodou substituční nebo třemi variantami metody vložných ztrát. Norma definuje údaje, které je nutno uvádět u této zkoušky
