Tato norma specifikuje obsah, formát a metodu záznamu datových bloků obsahujících obraz, zvuk a systémová data záznamu digitálního obrazového záznamu v šikmých stopách na pásek 6,35 mm, který definuje norma IEC 61834-1 pro záznam toku MPEG-2 pro HD signály. V režimu HD 1 je navržena pro systémy 525/60 a 625/50 podle specifikace v IEC 61834-9 a IEC 61834-10. Zbývající informace, které neobsahují uvedené normy definuje kapitola 7. V režimu HD 2 je navržena pro systémy 1125/60 a 1125/50. Základní specifikace pro záznam v šikmých stopách musí být podle kapitol 5 a 6 této normy. Zbývající informace, které neobsahují uvedené kapitoly definuje kapitola 8.
