Tato část IEC 62021 popisuje postup stanovení čísla kyselosti nepoužitých a použitých minerálních elektro-izolačních olejů metodou potenciometrické titrace.. Tato metoda může být používána k indikaci relativních změn, které se vyskytují v minerálních izolačních olejích v průběhu používání za oxidačních podmínek, bez ohledu na barvu nebo další vlastnosti používaného minerálního oleje. Kyselost může být použita pro kontrolu kvality nepoužitého (nového) minerálního oleje.
